About Totogatic Wild River
The Totogatic Wild River designation covers nearly 70 miles of the Totogatic River, stretching from the outlet of Totogatic Lake in Bayfield County downstream through Sawyer, Washburn, and Douglas counties to its confluence with the Namekagon River in Burnett County.
Four impoundments along the river—Nelson Lake and the Totogatic Flowage in Sawyer County, and the Colton and Minong Flowages in Washburn County—are exempt from the designation due to existing development, dams, and the need for ongoing maintenance and heavy equipment access.
