About Copper Culture Mounds State Park
Copper Culture Mounds State Park is the site of a prehistoric cemetery used by the Old Copper Complex people, who inhabited the northern Midwest between approximately 4000 and 2000 BC. The park preserves burial mounds and artifacts from this ancient culture, offering visitors a chance to walk the grounds and view the Oconto River.
The 42-acre park, located just west of Oconto, includes a museum operated by the Oconto County Historical Society that displays artifacts and exhibits detailing the significance of the site.
