About Post Oak Ridge State Park
Northwest of Austin lies beautiful ranchland, with scenic Colorado River frontage and spring-fed creeks, dramatic cliffs and canyons, and a ridgeline that is home to an uncommon stand of majestic post oaks. Explore 4 miles of rugged trails through post oak woodlands to scenic overlooks of the Colorado River. You'll enjoy vistas across rolling hills and a view of an otherworldly rock formation across the river. Watch for wildlife, enjoy the serenity of the Hill Country, and picnic under post oaks. John Fletcher and Mattie Lou Vann settled here in 1889, making a home for seven children and their descendants. Over the years, Vann family members have ranched, chopped cedar and opened a popular fish camp on this land.
