About Thompson's Mills State Heritage Site

Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site is the oldest standing water-powered grain mill in Oregon, preserving 160 years of rural history. The mill’s original turbines, still powered by a water right dating to before statehood, are operational during demonstrations, showcasing the ingenuity of early milling technology and the adaptations made by its owners over time.

The site is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Self-guided tours are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while guided tours run Monday through Thursday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m., and on Fridays through Sundays on demand during the same hours.
