About State Capitol State Park
The park features cherry trees and other plants favored by Oregonians, along with historical elements such as stone plaques embedded in the mall sidewalks that list each of Oregon’s county seats and establishment dates. On the Willson Park side, flags from all 50 U.S. states are displayed in a circle near the Moon Tree—a Douglas-fir grown from a seed carried to the moon by Apollo 14 astronaut Stuart Roosa in 1971.
The grounds include three fountains: the Waite Fountain west of the capitol building in Willson Park, the Wall of Water along Court Street opposite the main capitol entrance, and the Capitol Fountain at the north end of the Capitol Mall on Center Street.
