About OC and E Woods Line State Trail

The Oregon, California and Eastern (OC&E) Woods Line State Trail is a 100-mile linear park built on the former railbed of the Oregon, California and Eastern Railroad, stretching from Klamath Falls east to Bly and north to Sycan Marsh. Open year-round for non-motorized recreation, the trail is divided into four distinct sections: a 7.6-mile paved urban stretch from Klamath Falls to Olene, a 31-mile gravel segment from Olene to Sprague River, a 24-mile rough rock and grass trail from Sprague River to Bly, and a 33-mile rough rock spur from Woods Line to Sycan Marsh. Facilities include toilets at key trailheads including Reeder Road, Wiard Park, Switchbacks, Bly, and Horse Glade.

The trail passes through diverse landscapes—from farmland and sagebrush to timbered valleys and wetlands—offering views of Mt. Shasta, Olene Gap, and the Sycan Marsh. Historical markers note the trail’s railroad heritage, including Swede’s Cut, where Swedish laborers blasted through hardpan with star drills and black powder. The route skirts former towns like Dairy and Bly, once a bustling mill community, and traverses ranch lands where livestock may be encountered. Five Mile Creek is crossed near the northern spur, and the trail ends in the remote, ecologically rich Sycan Marsh.
