About Elowah Falls Trailhead (John B. Yeon)
John B. Yeon is a trailhead parking area in the Columbia River Gorge, providing access to Elowah Falls and McCord Creek Falls. The trail begins on the south side of I-84, passing through forested areas still showing signs of damage from the Eagle Creek Fire, and crosses the historic Moffett Creek Bridge before following the Columbia River with views of Bonneville Dam. The route ascends Tooth Rock, passing beneath the highway tunnel, and continues along the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.
The paved state trail extends 5.5 miles west to the Bridge of the Gods Trailhead at Cascade Locks, intersecting with several Forest Service trails including the Pacific Crest Trail. Along the way, hikers and cyclists pass the Cascade Fish Hatchery, Ruckel Creek, and a small waterfall, and encounter a 40-foot staircase with bike grooves near the Eagle Creek Trailhead. The trailhead is named for John B. Yeon, a key figure in the development of the Historic Columbia River Highway.
