About Stephens State Park

The Musconetcong River flows through Stephens State Park, offering trout-stocked fishing opportunities amid boulders and scenic river views. Visitors can use picnic tables and grills along the riverbank, or explore hiking and mountain biking trails. Tent camping is available for extended stays.

Less than a mile east along Waterloo Road at Saxton Falls, remnants of the Morris Canal’s 23rd lock and a section of its towpath remain. The original 90-mile canal, which transported coal and iron from Newark to Phillipsburg, was abandoned in the late 1800s after being superseded by the Morris and Essex Railroad.
