About Delabar

Delabar State Park, located on the Mississippi River about 1.5 miles north of Oquawka near Illinois Route 164, encompasses 89 acres of forested land dominated by oak, birch, and hickory trees. The park provides natural habitat for wildlife including deer, raccoon, rabbit, squirrel, groundhog, and quail, and supports over 50 bird species, making it a noted destination for birdwatching.

The park was established in 1960 after Roy and Jack Delabar donated the land to the state in 1959. It offers facilities for fishing, hiking, camping, and picnicking, with advance registration required for groups of 25 or more to manage use and prevent overcrowding.
