About Wormsloe State Historic Site

Wormsloe State Historic Site, located on the Isle of Hope near Savannah, Georgia, features a majestic live oak avenue draped in Spanish moss leading to the tabby ruins of Noble Jones’s 18th-century colonial estate. Jones, one of Georgia’s first settlers who arrived with James Oglethorpe in 1733, served as a carpenter, doctor, surveyor, and military commander, and his ruins are among the oldest standing structures in Savannah. The site reflects centuries of cultural influence from Native American, African, and European inhabitants.

Visitors can explore the interpretive nature trail that winds past the ruins and along the marsh to the Colonial Life Area, where period demonstrations showcase colonial tools and skills during scheduled events. A museum displays artifacts excavated from the site, and historical interpreters offer programs year-round, including the annual “Colonial Faire and Muster” in February. Leashed pets are permitted on trails but not in buildings.
