About Pickett's Mill Battlefield State Historic Site

Pickett’s Mill Battlefield State Historic Site, located in Paulding County, Georgia, preserves one of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation. Visitors can walk along roads used by Federal and Confederate troops, view original earthworks, and traverse the same ravine where hundreds died during the May 27, 1864, battle. An authentic 1800s pioneer cabin, furnished and open for tours during special events, offers insight into period life. One of the two original cannons used in the battle is on display in the museum, on loan from the Atlanta History Center.

The site’s forests, fields, and trails provide a quiet, natural escape amid suburban Atlanta, with leashed pets permitted on historic trails. Visitors may access the visitor center to begin their exploration of the battlefield, where artifacts and interpretive displays recount the costly Union assault and Confederate defense that delayed the Federal advance on Atlanta by a week.
